What to look for

  • Older wiring and plumbing are common in houses from the early 1900s; ask what has been updated.
  • Foundations on older houses may need bolting or replacement; see our earthquake retrofit grants page.
  • Original details such as porches, built-ins and wood windows drive value; check what’s original.
  • Listings name styles loosely, so some of these houses are “inspired by” the style more than pure examples, and many true examples never say the word.

How we counted

Closed sales of houses (MLS property type “single family home”) with a Redwood City address between October 28, 2024 and October 27, 2026, reported to the MLS and read through the IDX feeds that power our home search, with repeat records from different feeds removed (normalized address plus sale date). A house counts for the style when its listing description names it, by the same rules as our Home Styles pages. Price per square foot uses sales with 400 sq ft or more and is compared with the median for all Redwood City houses. Neighborhoods are our guides’ outlines, placed by each sale’s map position. Past sales aren’t a forecast or the value of any one home.
