The company also lists Bell Haven (1928) and Newbridge Park and Bayshore Park (1934) in Menlo Park, and its Hall of Fame profile adds Woodside Hills, El Cerrito Manor in San Mateo and Homeplace in Hillsborough; we couldn’t confirm those from maps. Outside our area it built San Lorenzo Village in Alameda County. Santa Clara’s earlier “Westwood Park” tracts (1941 and 1946) were mapped by other owners.

how to spot one

How to spot a Bohannon home

From county maps, his architect’s archive and period press quoted by Eichler Network.

  • tracts

    Low ranch houses

Bohannon favored conservatively styled ranch houses for his tracts, according to Eichler Network’s history of his architect.

  • 1952

    “Sunshine Living”

Mayfair Heights homes had a picture window under a low gable, an open plan under a beamed vaulted ceiling and a full-wall window to an enclosed patio, per 1952 press quoted by Eichler Network.

  • 1955

    Westwood cottages

Westwood’s single-story homes had board-and-batten siding, a roofline carried over the entry walk and large divided-pane windows, per Eichler Network.

  • architect

    Mogens Mogensen

Mogensen joined Bohannon’s San Mateo office as a designer in 1947 and returned as chief architect in 1952, according to his archive at UC Berkeley.

  • myth check

    The “Bohannon Tract” is real

His 1952 Westwood map created Bohannon Drive, so the listing label fits. Santa Clara’s earlier Westwood Park tracts were mapped by other owners, so check the tract map for a given address.

Most Bohannon homes sell without the builder named, and listings that mention only Bohannon Drive are left out, so the ledger undercounts them. Sales come from the MLS records available to us and include every sold listing whose description names the builder, so a few homes may be labeled by the listing agent rather than confirmed from tract records. Sold data is shown with the listing brokerage. Price per square foot uses the living area in the listing. Ask us for a full comparable-sales report on any address.
