the story
How Hillview & Capitol Park came to be
City annexation records name this part of East San Jose after Hillview. 'Hillview No. 1' (June 29, 1956) took in the Cathay Dr, Bal Harbor Way and Biscayne Way blocks, 'Hillview No. 8' (October 1956) the Karl St and Hopkins Dr blocks, and 'Hillview No. 3' (January 10, 1957) the Capitol Park streets north of Story Rd. The 'Amos' annexations of 1958 and 1959 added the Foxdale Dr, Leeward Dr and Adrian Way blocks; in all, about nine-tenths of the land joined the city in the 1950s.
City sewer records date the mains on most streets to 1958 and 1959, from Peter Pan Ave and Dobern Ave to Bal Harbor Way and Cathay Dr. Tallahassee Dr and Gainsville Ave followed in 1961, Adrian Way, Foxdale Dr and Berona Way in 1965, and the Sierra Vista and Sierra Meadow streets near Capitol Ave in 1977.
The Hillview Branch Library opened in August 1965 and moved into its current, larger building at 1600 Hopkins Dr on January 20, 2007 (San Jose Public Library); the old library at 2255 Ocala Ave is now a neighborhood center (city layer). Lower Silver Creek crosses the guide between Story Rd and Ocala Ave, with three short city trail reaches beside it.

- Light rail construction along Capitol Expy is scheduled into early 2028; on the east-edge streets, check VTA's updates for traffic and noise.
- Most homes date from the late 1950s; check the electrical panel, roof age and sewer lateral, and look for permits on garage conversions and additions.
Selling here
