How Milford Village & Piedmont came to be
This guide pairs two names from the city's neighborhood map. Milford Village is the tract between Jupiter Dr and Roswell Dr around Rose Elementary; Piedmont Heights is the run of streets just east of it, from Burley Dr and La Crosse Dr toward Piedmont Rd. Around them sit the blocks along S. Park Victoria Dr and Dempsey Rd and a 1970s fringe near Piedmont Rd, all inside the square formed by I-680, Calaveras Blvd, Piedmont Rd and Yosemite Dr.
Milpitas incorporated on January 26, 1954, and county build years in the city's parcel data put the first houses here, on Carnegie Dr, Monmouth Dr, Ashland Dr, Mercury Ct and Saturn Ct, in 1955. Roswell Dr and Jupiter Dr followed in 1957-61, the Piedmont Heights streets (La Crosse, Girard, Findley, Dalton, Ellwell, Armand, Burley, Bixby) in 1960, Stulman Dr, La Baree Dr and Patricia Ct in 1962, Perry St, Rodrigues Ave and that stretch of S. Park Victoria Dr in 1966, and Lacey Dr, Sepulveda Ave, Pedro Ave and Falcato Dr between 1970 and 1978. The median build year across about 1,350 single-family parcels is 1961.
One building predates all of it. The Alviso Adobe, at the corner where Piedmont Rd meets Calaveras Rd, is dated by the city to 1837 and is on the National Register of Historic Places; the federal record was published in 1997 and gives a period of significance of 1850 to 1874. The city obtained the site in 1996, improved drainage and stabilized the adobe, rebuilt the old farm outbuildings to look like the originals, added a garden and restrooms, and opened the renewed Alviso Adobe Park in March 2013. A small 2000 subdivision on Alviso Adobe Ct now sits beside it.

The streets and the houses
The street plan is short blocks and courts between S. Park Victoria Dr and Piedmont Rd, with Roswell Dr curving through the middle. Lots are consistent: the median single-family lot is about 6,200 sq ft, about 82 percent of single-family parcels list one floor in county data, and zoning is R1-6 nearly everywhere. Several Milford Village streets follow a space theme: Jupiter Dr, Saturn Ct, Mercury Ct, Mars Ct and Solar Ct.
Piedmont Heights' 1960-62 streets repeat the one-story pattern on lots of about 6,000 sq ft. Toward Piedmont Rd the houses get newer: Lacey Dr, Sepulveda Ave, Pedro Ave, Mattos Dr and Falcato Dr date to 1970-78, and a larger share of them are two-story. At the northeast corner, Alviso Adobe Ct and Mirabella Ct have two-story homes from 2000.
West of S. Park Victoria Dr the mix widens. Edsel Dr's houses date from 1955 to 1974, Selwyn Dr and Shirley Dr have small 1960s multifamily buildings, and a 200-unit condominium complex built in 2007 runs along Dempsey Rd. Commercial lots line Calaveras Blvd at Park Victoria Dr and near Dempsey Rd.

Calaveras Hills High School and the district office are across Calaveras Blvd at 1331 E. Calaveras Blvd. Attendance boundaries change, so check the exact address with the district's Find Your School tool.
Getting around
- VTA Route 47 runs along S. Park Victoria Dr (stops at Dempsey, Edsel and Yosemite) and E. Calaveras Blvd, connecting to the Milpitas BART and VTA light-rail station.
- Milpitas BART / VTA station: about 1.8 miles from the middle of the area (straight-line).
- I-680: the Calaveras Blvd interchange is at the northwest corner, about 0.7 mile from the middle; the Landess Ave / Montague Expwy interchange is about 1.3 miles away (both straight-line).

A shallow-flooding AO strip crosses parts of Roswell Dr, Edsel Dr, Selwyn Dr, Monmouth Dr and S. Park Victoria Dr. Check the address on FEMA panel 06085C0067J (effective Feb 19, 2014) and ask about flood insurance.
- Liquefaction: about half of the parcels, the western blocks (Carnegie Dr, Monmouth Dr, Mercury Ct, Saturn Ct, Selwyn Dr, Dempsey Rd, S. Park Victoria Dr), are in the state liquefaction zone (2004 Milpitas map); the Piedmont Heights streets toward Piedmont Rd are outside it. Check the parcel.
