San Mateo County
San Mateo County was formed in April 1856 out of the southern portion of then-San Francisco County with a population of fewer than 5,000 people and little in the way of commerce. Today, more than 764,000 people call San Mateo County home and it stretches the boundary of Silicon Valley northward.

Daly City sits between the San Bruno mountains and the Pacific Ocean on the San Francisco peninsula. It was first inhabitde by the Ohlone Indians and the site became a Spanish land grant in the 18th century.
In the 1850's, a dairyman named John D. Daly moved to this area and opened farm land and provided assitance to refugees who had been driven out of San Francisco due to an earthqauke and fire. It was in 1911 when this area was renamed Daly City.
Following WWII was when urban expansion of the San Francisco Bay Area took place and the population of Daly City began to rapidly increase. Currently, the San Francisco Cow Palace still resides within the borders of Daly City, which also shows Daly City's roots.
