About Strawberry Point

Eichler Homes launched Harbor Point on Strawberry Point in 1965–1966, with 99 houses planned. The company’s bankruptcy stopped it after 13 models; the bank that took over sold them, and the other 86 lots stayed empty until building by others began around 1973.

Each model differs, because Eichler didn’t want buyers to feel they had bought a tract house. Claude Oakland designed most and Jones & Emmons as many as three; five are original two-story or split-level designs for steep sites.

Ten homes are on Starboard Court and three on adjacent Great Circle Drive, all facing the water. Several lots extend into Richardson Bay. Exteriors are largely original, though one home has a partial second story and at least two have been heavily remodeled.

• The roofThe low-slope roofs and their insulation are a common upgrade. Ask for the roof’s age, material and any permits.
• Glass and wallsOriginal single-pane glass and thin wall panels are typical. Many owners have upgraded; ask what was done and whether it was permitted.
• Marin County rulesThe area is unincorporated, so Marin County handles permits. We found no Eichler-specific county standard here; check the parcel with Marin County planning before you plan changes.
• Confirm it’s one of the 13Homes built on the other 86 lots from around 1973 aren’t Eichlers; confirm the house is one of the original Starboard Court or Great Circle Drive models.
