About Pomeroy Green
Pomeroy Green isn’t a tract of detached houses. California’s State Historical Resources Commission describes 16 buildings, each with two to eight two-story townhouses, plus a clubhouse, designed by Claude Oakland with the landscape architects Sasaki, Walker and Associates. The commission took up its National Register nomination in January 2021, citing its pioneering use of cluster development.
Sources disagree on the year: 1961 in one account, 1963 according to a resident quoted by an Eichler publication.
Pomeroy West, also on Pomeroy Avenue and Benton Street, is described in listings and an Eichler publication as a second Eichler townhouse complex, opened in 1963; we haven’t found an official record of it. Listings don’t reliably say which complex a unit is in, so the ledger below covers both streets.

the nerd check
Buying or selling at Pomeroy Green
- Radiant heatMost Eichlers were built with hot-water radiant heat in the slab. Ask whether the original system still runs, has been repaired or was replaced, and get a radiant-heat specialist to look before you remove contingencies.
- The roofThe low-slope roofs and their insulation are a common upgrade. Ask for the roof’s age, material and any permits.
- Glass and wallsOriginal single-pane glass and thin wall panels are typical. Many owners have upgraded; ask what was done and whether it was permitted.
- Ownership and rulesAn Eichler publication describes Pomeroy Green as a resident cooperative, while recent listings show units sold as townhouses and condos. Check the ownership type, the association documents and any purchase-approval steps for the unit you’re considering.
