What to check before you buy
- Contributing or notLook the address up in the city’s district property table: about 890 of the district’s roughly 1,270 address records are listed as contributing, by our count.
- WindowsThe city has refused vinyl replacement windows and required aluminum ones.
- Painted brick and unpermitted workIn one case city staff recommended requiring an owner to remove paint from brick after work done without permits.
- FloodingSome lots near Sims Bayou are in the 500-year floodplain, and new houses there have been allowed extra height to meet FEMA and city code.
Sources differ on the end date (1962 in the city’s report; many houses are dated to 1965) and spell the developer McManus or McManis.
