Filled with single-story homes, most notably its collection of Eichlers, Walnut Grove is a tiny neighborhood of its own commonly mistaken as part of the larger nearby Greenmeadow. Bounded by E Charleston Rd, Alma St, and Adobe Creek, what used to be a rush of traffic near this neighborhood has since been reduced by the city in an effort to make the neighborhood quieter and more pedestrian and cyclist-friendly. The neighborhood is especially popular with families new to Palo Alto looking to find a home from which their children can walk and bike to school every morning, complemented by its proximity to public transportation and amenities including the Charleston Shopping Center. Part of what helps this neighborhood retain its quaint charm is the single-story overlay enacted in the early 90s, which protects the privacy of residents and the peaceful residential atmosphere by preventing the construction of two-story homes.
