     Roughly 22 miles from San Francisco and a population of just over 3600, Moss Beach has a beautiful, lengthy coastline and offers many ways to be with nature. Moss Beach offers residents and visitors access to the ocean as well as scenic views from its many hiking trails. Moss Beach ranch also makes horse riding easily accessable, offering over 4000 acres of open countryside.

     Due to its small size, lots of land, and beautiful views, Moss Beach is a very different environment from other towns and cities on the peninsula. Although it still has multiple restaurants and stores, it is a much quieter and relaxed environement. It is a perfect place to own a home for those who enjoy the ocean and living within nature.

     Moss Beach was founded in the 1880s by German immigrant, Juergen Wienke. He believed that the Moss Beach area would be a great vacation area for those who lived in San Francisco. Weineke constructed the Moss Beach Hotel which drew many people into the Moss Beach area.

     Later, tons of people, including celebrities, would take the Ocean Shore train to Moss Beach to fish and catch abalone. Alongside them, many marine biologists such as S.F. Lights and Edward Smith studied and collected specimens along the shoreline of Moss Beach. In 1969, the Moss Beach tide pool area, now known as Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, was designated as a natural reserve for plants and animals adapted to live at the edge of the ocean.
