Walnut Grove | Eichler Neighborhood Palo Alto

  • On the outskirts of Palo Alto’s Greenmeadow neighborhood is the Walnut Grove Eichler subdivision. Homes here at not all pure Eichlers, but the neighborhood as a whole is mid-century modern through and through. The Eichlers here were built in 1951 under architects Jones & Emmons. Today residents of Walnut Grove use the recreational facilities operated by the Greenmeadow Community Association, which includes a swimming pool with programs for the entire family. Walnut Grove residents love the quaint and quiet atmosphere of the neighborhood as well as the walkability of Walnut Grove and its proximity to public transportation as well as the Charleston Shopping Center, Mitchell Park, the YMCA and the Palo Alto Library. In efforts to preserve the Eichler charm of the neighborhood, residents spearheaded a single-story overlay for the entire neighborhood that successfully passed through the city of Palo Alto 1992. Today, Walnut Grove is still a beloved Eichler-ish neighborhood with residents who continue to uphold Eichlers ideals of community living with neighborhood block parties and bbqs. As an older neighborhood Walnut Grove has watched Palo Alto and the greater Silicon Valley transform into the bay area we know today. Now, the Palo Alto area is one of the most sought-after places to live in the state. As a worldwide tech hub, Palo Alto is home to companies like HP, Tesla, Skype, and VMware with tech giants Apple, Google, and Facebook all in neighboring cities. The Palo Alto School District is currently ranked #1 in the state of California and there are a plethora of top-ranked private schools in and around the city. Downtown Palo Alto is a charming combination of small-town accessibility and urban ambience. Outdoor cafes, tiny coffee shops, bookstores, mom-and-pop specialty shops, national chains, art galleries, two movie theaters and numerous restaurants attract shoppers, eaters and entertainment-seekers of all ages.
